Who We Are
The Joshua House is a new church community seeking to BE the church to an emerging suburban culture in Richmond, BC, Canada.  We have a vision to see interdependent community groups formed in neighbourhoods throughout our city.  These groups would seek to BE the church in their respective neighbourhoods, entering, serving and loving their communities in Jesus' name.  Our first community group meets together in northwest Richmond (Terra Nova) for dessert/coffee/tea and a scripture-related time of teaching and discussion on Sunday nights.

Moreover, once a month on the first Sunday of the month we meet in a church building for a more service oriented, event-like gathering called First Sunday.  Here we use teaching, music, visual media and art to create something "just a little bit different" for us to worship God and learn how to be followers of Jesus in our city.  Also on alternating Thursdays the men and women take turns going out and doing something together.  This can mean anything from getting a mocha at our favourite coffee shop to going out for dinner, a movie, a lecture or simply watching the Canucks at a local pub.  See Community Calendar for dates and times.

We are and continue to seek to be a household of friends and families learning together what it means to be followers/students of Jesus Christ as fitting in the historical, orthodox and reformed Christian faith.  We are mostly urbanized suburbanites, husbands, wives, children, students, employees and entrepreneurs all journeying forward together with Jesus seeking to BE the church in an emerging culture.

WHAT'S WITH THE NAME?
Joshua
is likely the more proper english translation of the Hebrew name for Jesus (Jeshua = God is salvation).  Being a community of followers of Jesus we thought it might make sense to make him a part of our name.  We like the word "house" because it's the short form for household which hopefully brings to mind images of home such as family, community, eating, laughing, playing, sharing, support and simply going through life together.  Moreover, God's people in the bible are often referred to as His "household" or "house."  Hence we are The "Jesus" House or The Joshua House.
